Galaxy Fold phone delayed by Samsung

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold phone was set to be released April 26 but has since been delayed due to issues reported by various reviewers on the phone. A new release date has not been announced yet, but Samsung is promising customers that a new Galaxy Fold release date will be coming in the next couple of weeks. However, for now, excited customers are going to have to wait a little bit longer to get their hands on the Galaxy Fold.

Galaxy Fold

If you’re unfamiliar with the Galaxy Fold phone, it is a phone featured a single flexible display. The Galaxy Fold can be unfolded and used as a tablet or folded in half to be used more like a traditional smartphone. The catch is that the phone can be folded and unfolded with no visible break in the screen, as you can see in the picture above. That’s how it’s supposed to work, anyway.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the Galaxy Fold now won’t be coming out until at least May. Reviewers and testers have found lots of issues with the phone’s screen malfunctioning and parts coming off, according to Time. As one might expect, it is proving a bit difficult for Samsung to make a durable phone with a screen that is constantly being folded or unfolded.

Despite the setback, a Samsung representative promises that “We will take measures to strengthen the display protection.” It is unclear how long that will take, but for now, the Galaxy Fold is still expected to launch within the next few months. If successful, Samsung will have created a new category of mobile phones that will be the first of its kind. While it does remain to be seen if it will be successful, the idea itself is very exciting. One positive note about the delay of the Galaxy Fold is that users now have a little bit longer to save up for the nearly $2,000 price tag.
